Thriller Schedule 27th Jan - Hurtwood

In order for the shoot day to run smoothly and avoid any extra stress we have decided to put together a schedule. By doing this it assures us that everyone in the group knows what they are doing at what time and enables us to all be 'on the same page.

8.00 - 9.00 --> Tibetan Village (country-side shot) This shot has now been re-organised for early  one morning next week due to clash of careers talks.

9.15 - 10.30 --> Media room (Set up the night before)

10.40 - 11.30 --> Hurtwood Main House (establishing shot)

11.40 -12.30 --> Premeter Tape (police tape and warning signs etc)

12.30 - 1.00 --> Trailer (Set up the night before)

Lunchtime

1.30 - 2.20 --> Laundry room

3.00 - 4.00 --> Studio, dead bodies shot

During the lunchtime we will carry out the make up for the dead body victims as this is a period of time where we are sure that more people will be available.

When forming our schedule we had to take into consideration the other group that is filming on the same day, so we had to work around each other to avoid any clashes. For example one area that we will both be using is the studio and both of us will need to set up and arrange the set accordingly so at times like these it is vital that everyone cooperates.

Friday 27th January - Hurtwood

This is our official date for our filming day which means from now we have 4 days to gather together our last of the props that we need and complete the finishing touches to our Thriller filming.

The more organised we are the more efficient the final product should be :)

There is a slight issue with this date that we have been given as we have been informed that we can only work until 4pm which isn't too bad apart from our whole year have been told that we have to go to a careers meeting on this day.  As a result of this our group loose an hour of our filming time which has panicked us a bit, however we have been reassured by Matt and Luke that t will be possible to finish our filming within the time that we have. Also if worst comes to worst we can always complete some shots in some time next week if necessary.

There is one particular shot that we want to get at a particular time and this is the establishing shot of the countryside which we'd like to get at daybreak. The affect that we'd like to get this in is a 'Time Lapse' which involves filming for a long period of time and then when it comes to editing we can almost *fast forward* the shot that we've taken, so we get the clouds and sunrising coming across the sky. This should imply the element of time that has past to the audience.

A good example of a time lapse:

We've been told that this particular shot is likely to be filmed next week when the time is available early morning - this also means there will more likely be an adviser (camera-wise) as well.

Shots and Location - Hurtwood

The idea that we have always had and wanted to produce are long, uncomfortable shots that create tension through the stillness and emptiness of the Mise-En-Scene of the shot. This causes the audience to not only feel uncomfortable but also question what has happened to have triggered these scenes.

Some areas and shots that we have come up with are the following:

1) Establishing shot of the countryside to give the audience an idea of the setting and scenery.
2) Establishing shot of the main building, Hurtwood house.
3) Perimeter shot, fenced off opening, police line, warning tape etc..
4) Clinical waste bins, smelly, rotten, dirty...
5) Medical room/supply room, shot in the media room.
6) Trailer shot, attempt to organise bodies etc...
7) Laundry room, shot in the downstairs of Hurtwood main house.
8) Bodies wrapped up and attempted to organise in storage.
9) Hospital beds in lines.

Both 8 and 9 will be filmed in the studio as a set up.

I really hope and feel like we will be able to create these scenes to the best of our ability through the use of affective props and scenery. We will have to put a lot of effort into the creation of our decoration but this should be fun and a good test of our skills, there's a first for everything and personally this is a first for me so I'm excited to learn and view the final result.

Thriller update 'Location' - Hurtwood

For the past we I have been slightly distracted with mock exams for other subjects so i haven't been able to focus my full attention on my media work. As a result my blog hasn't been up to date with the progress of pour work and there is a lot to update on.

Firstly the location situation. As previously written I explained about how we'd like to film at the off sight location however once we were together and expressed our interest in this idea to the teachers we decided that it may not have been the best idea in terms of cost and finally our actual story line that we have. We concluded that the cost of the location may not satisfy the look that we intend to produce, a look that if done correctly could be done here at the school. Although at first I was unable to picture any of our shots at the school and I admit that it did take a bit of convincing for me to finally foresee what it is we could produce here.

Further Location info - Hurtwood

Today I spoke to a lovely woman called Sue at location works.

She had received the email from us requesting the possibility of filming on our selected location and said that for the particular date that we had asked for was available. The only catch is that we do have to pay do use this site.
We weren't naive enough to think that we could get away with not paying of course, as we knew that this was issue.
However Sue explained that they do understand that we are students and may not necessarily have the kind of money that they normally would ask for.
Taking this into consideration we now have to find out what our budget is that we have and whether or not its totally necessary - Which we most definitely think is!

So when we return to school on Monday we will discuss our new idea's and hopefully our teachers and colleagues will being able to see what it is we envisaged and how affective and excited we are about producing our new idea!!

Fingers crossed = Thumbs up!

Location Work - Hurtwood

We are currently awaiting permission from the company 'Location Works' after my friend Georgina emailed them showing our interest in what it is we planned on doing. Hopefully they will reply soon with a YES (fingers crossed) as we have now only got 4 weeks until our filming date, the 27th January.

We all understand that we have put ourselves in a difficult position but we hope with our new keen interest and inspiration that we will be able to complete our goal in the most affective of ways! Our aim has always been to create an affective and visually interesting Thriller and we plan on for filling that aim to our best.

Location Work - Hurtwood

Out of the three locations that are available through this website within our area (Surrey) we have decided to focus on one of our favourites.

This is a shot of the main building that is possibly available. Inside it is clear from the photos provided that it truly is ruined and not in living conditions.

Throughout the photos that I have viewed i have received a very cold and eery feeling, and this is only portrayed in the photos; to think that we may film here is great. If this element is perceived through our Thriller than it will be incredibly affective.

Also available to this location are a massive amount of outbuildings which are also in a similar condition.

Using these would be perfect as they portray the isolated and destroyed element that we want to represent and also the idea that whatever has happened, happened a long time ago.

Updates and Progress on our Thriller - Hurtwood

Throughout the christmas period I have been having slight doubts about how effective our Thriller was going to be. There are many idea's that have come and gone over time and I realised that the fact that I have been coming up with different ideas subconsciously surely means that I am not comfortable with our idea.

Similarly, when we have been discussing our idea within our team I haven't felt like anyone has been very enthused or inspired by our idea as a whole in comparison with our very originally first idea's. So after discussing my concerns with some other members we've agreed that we need to make a change. Fast.

Myself and Georgina discovered a video through a friend that reminded us of our initial idea of making the thriller 'As Simple as Possible' to create a chilling element. Whereas before we changed to focusing on MES created around the school we've decided that with the time we have and the date we've been given (a school day, where it would almost be impossible to create a deserted feel) this would be near to impossible.

After hunting around the internet for some possible locations I came across a location which is near to perfect! It's nearby to the school, so well in distance to reach. The condition its been described in as being, is 'derelict' and 'ruined' which is exactly what we envisioned. This element would be a further representation of how long our story of an epidemic has been happening for.
